Taiwan has done a lot on gender issues and thus becomes a benchmark for other countries in Asia. With the spirit of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and social innovation, we would like to launch the “Gender Innovation Awards” in the Asia-Pacific region to source new solutions on different pressing problems, with gender perspectives.
It is the first competition based on SDGs, expecting to connect the international community to solve the problems and maximize social impact within the region. Also, we can showcase what we’ve done so far on gender equality and human rights in Taiwan to the world. And this is a way that we can demonstrate our development on different SDGs goals and our contribution towards achieving the goals together with the world.
Goal 5 : Gender Equality
While some forms of discrimination against women and girls are diminishing, gender inequality continues to hold women back and deprives them of basic rights and opportunities. Empowering women requires addressing structural issues such as unfair social norms and attitudes as well as developing progressive legal frameworks that promote equality between women and men.
